Baseline Testing

A baseline test is a test that is taken before any concussions have occurred.   Baseline information can also be gathered after an athlete has completely recovered from the symptoms of a concussion.  Baseline testing data is valuable in determining the athletes pre-injury (normal) level of functioning.  There are several good reasons why an coaches, parents, athletes and medical professionals would like to have access to baseline ImPACT test results in the unfortunate event of a concussion:

1-  Baseline testing provides a meaningful comparison against which a post-concussion assessment can be compared.

2-  The availability of baseline testing will allow medical staff who are evaluating a concussion to prepare a more specific treatment plan for recovery.

3-  Having baseline testing allows better concussion management allowing athletes to safely return to play sooner.

4-  Parents, Coaches and athletes will have greater peace of mind knowing that the person with the concussion has returned to the previous level of performance and symptom level prior to returning to play.
